“It is an extended family, and a good group of friends.”

“It is a chance to live history.”

“I enjoy speaking with the visitors who are interested in the era who come out to see us at events. I like having the opportunity to teach and educate the public about the history of protecting our freedom that many seem to take for granted.”

“An opportunity to live history”

The Ohio Valley Civil War Association is one of the premier Civil War Living History units in the country. We teach and perform at National battlefields all over the country as well as many of the local venues. As a member of the group, you will be transported back in time to enjoy the experience of canvas tents, camp fires, the beat of the drum, and the social life of the 1860’s.

“Not just for the guys…”

We are made up of a group of men and women, from all aspects of life, all of whom share a love for history and have a determination to recreate an experience that lives up to the proud and devoted service of those that have gone before us. We are seeking dedicated people to participate in this hobby that we represent.

Interested in Joining?

A Fun and Rewarding Experience and a Great Place to Learn!

As a soldier, you will be trained and drilled according to the military manuals of the early to mid-1800’s using weapons, both rifles and artillery, that represent the era. You will also go through training on how to safely handle firearms and other equipment. (Muskets and artillery pieces are fully functional.)
If I am interested in this group and would possibly consider joining:

1)  What would I need to know about it?

You should have a passion and love for our country’s history. The OVCWA is a great place to learn and expand your knowledge. It will be an enjoyable experience with like minded individuals.

2)  To begin to participate, what do I need to have and what do I need to buy?

Loaner gear is available from the group to outfit you if you’re interested in trying out this hobby for yourself. Please speak with group members before buying any gear. We’ve all been there and can help to guide you to the best sources for quality, cost, and correctness.

3)  What kind of help can I expect from the group’s members?

Members of our group will be assigned to you as a sponsor and mentor to assist your transition into the group. This will make it easier for you to become comfortable and to enjoy participating as a member.

4)  Who do I contact? If I have a question about possibly joining and I am not sure if I want to do this or not, who can I speak to?
